All clients will be asked to fill out an informed consent outlining confidentiality and privacy policies within Discovering Hope. While the laws protect the relationship between the client and psychotherapist, there is some information that must be disclosed without client and families written permission:
- Suspected child, adult, or elder abuse; psychotherapist are required by law to report abuse to the appropriate authorities immediately
- Should a client threaten serious bodily harm to any person or group, psychotherapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim(s)
- Should a client have intent or a plan on harming herself or himself, psychotherapist will take every effort to ensure safety with client cooperation. Should a client not wish to cooperate, psychotherapist must take further measures without permission to ensure safety, which are provided by the law.
